B. S TANDARDS. 1. Child day care homes and facilities are required to be registered and licensed with the state in accordance with G.S. § 110-101. 2. An off -street drop -off/pick-up-area shall be provided. For child day care homes, a residential driveway is acceptable for this purpose. 3. For child care homes in detached single-family dwellings, no structural or decorative alteration that will affect the single -family character of the existing residential structure or be incompatible with surrounding residences is permitted. 4. For child day care homes, at least one hundred (100) square feet of outdoor play space per child must be provided. For child day care facilities licensed for six (6) to forty five (45) children, there shall be a minimum of two thousand two hundred fifty (2,250) square feet of outdoor play area. For child day care facilities licensed for forty six (46) or more children, there shall be a minimum of one hundred (100) square feet of outdoor play area for at least one -half (1/2) of the total number of children for which the center is licensed. Maximum number of children allowed on the outdoor play area at any one time shall be one (1) per one hundred (100) square feet of actual outdoor play area. 5. Outdoor space must be fenced or otherwise enclosed on all sides and may not include driveways, parking areas or land otherwise unsuited for children's play space and may not be in the required setback. 6. Yard and height requirements will be the same as those required for structures in the district in which it is located. In districts or locations without minimum yard requirements, or where the child care facility is part of a multiple use or multiple building setting, then a minimum land area dedicated to the child day care facility shall be four thousand five hundred (4,500) square feet. 7. Separate provisions for child day care facilities in the CrC District are outlined at § 155.503.2.C.8. [formerly known as § 153.181] 155.506.7 Institutional Uses In Residential Settings. A. Some nonresidential uses are of a character and geographical need that they can be located within a residential neighborhood without causing significant disturbance to the quality of life.
