Property summary
The property includes a 3,921-square-foot executive office suite within a historic multi-tenant building in downtown Portsmouth. The suite is designed for private access via an elevator opening directly into the office space, and is laid out with six private offices, a smaller interior office that can function as a compact conference room, a dedicated copy area, a well-equipped kitchen, a large open reception area, and a spacious conference room. Office areas have perimeter window lines providing natural light and window views. The building is adjacent to a marketplace and landscaped courtyard featuring large-scale sculptures and a fountain seating area. The structure was originally built in 1891 and historically housed the Rockingham County Jail until 1950 and later operated as the city police station until 1991. It is the sole surviving example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture in downtown Portsmouth, characterized by an asymmetrical facade, slate hip roof, and brick, granite, and terra cotta exterior details. Following remodeling after acquisition in 1994, original jail-era elements such as cells and window bars were removed and floors were rebuilt, and a four-story modern brick and granite addition was completed in 2001. The overall building comprises approximately 34,000 square feet and is configured as leased business suites.
