4. Electric agricultural fences are only permitted in the RA residential zoning district. 74 5. All front yard fences or walls for a residential use and fences along any street right-of-way shall be constructed of wood, stone, brick, decorative concrete block, wrought iron, products created to resemble these materials, or a combination of any of these materials. A fence is a front yard fence if it extends beyond the front corner of the primary structure. a. No front yard fence or wall for a residential use shall exceed four feet in height. b. Front yard fences for commercial uses are not allowed. 6. Conforming uses in the I-1 and I-2 zoning districts and all government uses are permitted a solid or open fence or wall not to exceed 10 feet in total height in the front, rear, or side yards, except as required by this Ordinance. An open fence or wall is one that has openings through which clear vision is possible from one side to the other on a horizontal plane, and such openings occupy 50% or more of the area of the fence or wall. A fence or wall that does not qualify as an open fence or open wall shall maintain a setback at entrances and exits of the site to provide an adequate sight distance easement as determined by the establishment of an isosceles triangle having legs of 35 feet in length on each corner side of said entrance or exit. 7. Licensed daycare centers and public and private schools are exempt from these requirements, provided that no fence exceeds six feet in total height in the front, rear, or side yards. The fence shall be constructed of chain link or similar material to maintain visibility of the property for security reasons. The setback and yard requirements of this Ordinance shall not apply to a retaining wall not more than five feet high, as measured from the lowest ground elevation to the top of the wall. The Town Planner may permit a retaining wall greater than five feet high when he/she finds that due to the topography of the lot such a wall is necessary. 7Accessory Buildings. Detached garages and accessory buildings no larger than 500 square feet in size may be constructed to the side or rear of the principal structure provided that they are located no closer than five feet to any adjoining lot line, except on the street side yard of a corner lot where the setbacks shall be one-half of the distance of the required front yard setback up to a maximum of 20 feet.
