Downtown Wheeling Opportunity Awaits
Be part of the new Downtown Wheeling, where several projects are underway or nearing completion. The Doris Apartment Complex, a 4-story, 46-unit new construction apartment complex, is being developed by Woda Cooper Companies. The Bridge Tavern involves the historic renovation of a 4-story former hotel, which will include an updated restaurant, Airbnb rentals, apartment rentals, and event space. The Wheeling Suspension Bridge, built in 1849, is undergoing a $17 million renovation that will include cosmetic improvements. Water Front Hall, a former retail store, is being renovated into a first-floor bar/restaurant space with an upper-floor event space and Airbnb rentals. The City is installing a new splash pad at Heritage Port, alongside the northwest front of WesBanco Arena. A $31.9 million streetscape project, funded by WVDOH, will replace all road surfaces, sidewalks, trees, crosswalks, and traffic lights in the downtown portions of Main and Market Street. Grow Ohio Valley has been awarded a $3.2 million Abandoned Mine Land grant to revitalize several acres of formerly coal-mined hillside property on Vineyard Hill above the Nelson Jordan Center into a functional and vibrant green space for recreation, health, and nutrition education. Desmone Architects of Pittsburgh plan to construct first-floor retail/restaurant space and upper-floor housing, including Airbnb rentals, in the 1400 Block Properties. The City of Wheeling is funding a new Police and Fire Department Headquarters.
