Overview

Art Deco Office Space

Located at 551 Fifth Avenue at 45th Street in New York City, the Fred F. French Building is an art deco structure designed in 1927 by H. Douglas Ives. The 38-story building is near major businesses, hotels, restaurants, retail stores, public transportation, and Grand Central Terminal, and offers views of Midtown Manhattan. The building served as the headquarters for Fred Fillmore French, who also developed Tudor City and Knickerbocker Village. The building's design incorporates art deco, ancient Babylonian, and European styles. The lobby, designated an interior landmark, features Roman travertine floors, St. Genevieve marble walls, cast bronze elevator doors, and patterned glass chandeliers. The exterior has a vertical facade of limestone and brick rising from a three-story limestone base, with orange brickwork, terracotta decor with black trim, themed rectangular patterns, bronze paneling, and bronze framed storefronts. The Fred F. French Building has been restored and upgraded with equipment, mechanicals, and elevator systems and is home to global corporations, Denihan Hospitality Group, and Morton’s Steakhouse.
