The preserve advertised guided hunts with pointers and setters, promising numerous shots at bobwhite quail. Half-day guided hunts were offered for $25, and full-day hunts for up to 20 quail cost $50, with additional quail available for $2.00 per bird. The remains of the cabin are located on the shores of Lake Melody, which was renamed in 1986 from Hodge Lake, its name until then after the person who mined the surrounding area for iron ore.
