    Scarborough's Town Center is undergoing development, adding 320,000 square feet of retail space, 60,000 square feet of medical office space, 240 residential units, and a boutique hotel. The Town Center includes a main anchor building designed to resemble the Scarborough Downs Grandstand, which will house restaurants and breweries featuring outdoor and rooftop dining areas overlooking a central greenspace. Additional mixed-use buildings will surround the green, offering first-floor restaurant and retail spaces, with upscale housing on the second and third floors. InterMed, a health care provider, is finalizing permitting and plans to break ground in the fall of 2024. Allagash is scheduled to break ground in 2025, constructing a tasting room. The development will also include 96 luxury condominium units, 60 market-rate apartments, and Maine’s first affordable housing building for individuals with physical disabilities, known as 3iHomes. Groundbreaking occurred in late 2023, establishing Maine’s first new-build downtown within an existing community. The Town Center will connect to the mixed-use residential area of The Downs, which includes 540 housing units of various types, such as condominiums, apartments, senior and affordable housing, and single-family homes.
