    Overview

This property offers a piece of Victorian Texas history with the Calvert Foundry & Manufacturing Co., originally the L. T. Fuller Co., comprised of four buildings. This is one of only five original structures listed by the State Historical Association on Main Street in Calvert available for purchase. Founded around 1870, Fuller's company was one of Calvert's first industries. The building features an original cast iron front facade from Mesker & Brothers Co. of St. Louis, MO. Iron ore from local deposits and Cherokee County was transported to the foundry to be made into farm tools and other articles. The property includes a coal basement, accessible by stairs, where trains once delivered coal for the foundry's use. Original brick walls, bead board ceilings, and an 1870s water cistern remain. The front doors feature decorated Victorian cast hardware. Tall ceilings and wide doors open onto Main Street. The 1870s long leaf Southern Pine wood floors are still present, with some restoration needed. Display windows remain, and cast iron hooks on the ceiling show where original oil ceiling lamp fixtures were located. Electrical wiring has been updated for modern use and safety. The structure is piped for natural gas heat, and a standing stove remains with the building.
