This 160-acre wooded property is located in Laird Township, in south-central Houghton County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Situated near various outdoor recreational opportunities, it borders thousands of acres of the Ottawa National Forest Lands to the north. The Sturgeon River Gorge Wilderness, a 14,000+ acre unit within the Ottawa National Forest, is approximately 7 miles southeast of the property. The North Country National Scenic Trail, a hiking trail over 4,800 miles long crossing eight states, runs through a portion of the property. About 5 miles northeast is access to the 810-Acre Prickett Lake, also known as Prickett Dam Backwater, a reservoir created in 1931 by damming the Sturgeon River. The lake features a public boat launch and various fish species. Silver Mountain, a 1,312 feet tall glacially polished dome-shaped basalt bluff, is also nearby. The mountain has a series of outcrops of bare igneous rock, which on the south side shows numerous 10,000 year old scars of glacier scour. These Cliffs average about 75 feet high and offer year-round sport, slack lining, trad climbing, and top rope climbing. The Winona/Alston Trail for snowmobiling is about 4-5 miles to the west. The Village of Baraga, with amenities such as grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, motels, and a casino, is about 10 miles away on the shore of Lake Superior, and includes a marina.
