Historic Byers Building with Potential
Constructed in the early 1900s by the Burton family, this building initially served as the Burton Mercantile, utilizing brick from their local factory. The original two-story structure accommodated various businesses. After a fire in 1930, the building was rebuilt as a single story, retaining its 5,500-square-foot lower level. Rebuilt by Ralph Nielson, it functioned as Solitaire Grocery and later housed a beauty shop in the early 1960s, followed by Ehmann's Grocery during the 60s and 70s. In 1980, it transitioned into a Packard Dealership. Post-rebuilding, the grocery store remained, changing ownership until the 1965 flood, after which it became the Packard Car Building until 1995. Subsequently, it operated as a Feed and Ranch Supply Store until 2013. The building was then converted into a 7-room Bed & Breakfast, catering to race car clubs and event parties until 2022. Note that the conversion work was not permitted or approved by the county, and the building has been red tagged. With B-3 zoning, the permitted uses are almost limitless. A Core and Shell plan/permit may be the best way on moving forward and prior to any finishes to the building. The property offers approximately 11,000 square feet of space.
