Overview

Historic Ranch with Ancient Petroglyphs

This 480-acre Arizona property contains a significant concentration of ancient petroglyphs, some dating back 13,000 years. The expansive ranch includes Chevelon Creek, which provides beauty and sustainability, and natural springs that ensure a year-round water source. A natural rock formation known as "The Steps" provided ancient inhabitants access to water, fish, and foraging resources. Within a quarter mile of The Steps, there are an estimated 3,000 petroglyphs depicting stories, rituals, and celestial observations. The Hopi Nation historically brought youth to The Steps for reflection, considering it sacred ground. The property is registered on the National Register of Historic Places and has been documented in publications and featured on television. Researchers from institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution, the Heard Museum, the National Geographic Society, and Northern Arizona University have studied the land. The current owner's family has maintained the property since the 1940s. The land could serve as a private retreat, a research center, a historical tourist attraction, or a protected heritage site. The landscape includes views, and Chevelon Creek winds through the terrain. The land supports four types of high-protein grasses, making it suitable for grazing animals, and is home to wildlife, including jackrabbits, green-collared lizards, coyotes, antelope, elk, and deer. Outdoor activities include hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, rock climbing, and fishing. The Hashknife cowboys once ran cattle on this land. Rock Art Ranch previously provided tours to the public. The property is located in Winslow, Arizona.
